Introducing Northboro Chiropractor Dr. Karen Moriarty
"I had almost given up...on finding a career in health care that was fulfilling."
As a teenager and young adult, I had worked in nursing homes and long term care facilities. I loved patient care. At the same time, I was deeply concerned about the poor quality nutrition, over medicating and callous attitude by many of the higher ranking health care providers in these facilities. I wanted to take care of sick people, but not like that. It was also apparent to me that these patients were not really getting well. I became discouraged and decided to go into medical research.
I entered a pre-med program and was fascinated by human anatomy and physiology. During my last semester, a good friend of mine acutely injured his lumbar spine. Looking back, I am sure that he herniated a disc. He asked me to drive him to a chiropractor that was near my college. I tried to convince him to go to the medical center. He passionately declined. Apparently this had happened to him five years prior. He initially went to his medical provider who prescribed medication and bed rest. This bed rest without pay went on for 6 weeks before someone suggested that he try a chiropractor. This young man was up and back to work after only a few adjustments, but remained under care after that to receive some deeper correction to his spinal injuries. So this time, he was absolutely sure that he wanted chiropractic care. I honored his request but deep inside I was a complete skeptic. As I helped him into the office, I was stunned by the chiropractic educational posters that explained the power of natural healing. Healing from the inside-out through a healthy and highly functioning spinal column and nervous system. The chiropractic assistant was warm and helpful. The other patients were upbeat and enthusiastic. I witnessed my friend's immediate and significant relief. I drove him to his next few appointments until he was well enough to drive himself. With each adjustment he showed greater improvement. This also gave me an opportunity to speak with the patients, the chiropractic assistants and finally the doctor himself.
After learning about the art, science and philosophy of chiropractic care, I knew that I had found the answer to my prayers. Natural and effective health care that truly gets sick and suffering people well by removing interference to their bodies ability to heal itself. Chiropractic is much more than a career to me. It is my true vocation, my life and my lifestyle. I am grateful every day that I serve my practice members, my staff, my friends and family through chiropractic care.
Upon received my bachelor's degree in Biology with highest honors from Southeastern Massachusetts University, now called UMASS Dartmouth, I was accepted to Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. My favorite courses were physiology, neurology and the science and philosophy of chiropractic. These courses built my foundational understanding of health and dis-ease.
Our office mission is to educate and adjust as many families as possible toward lifetime optimal health through natural chiropractic care. Health is a triune of the physical, the chemical and the emotional/spiritual aspects of our lifestyle. Our office has a very holistic philosophy in that we provide education on all aspects of health. We offer workshops on effective nutrition, powerful immune function, healthy heart, and optimal health. We work closely with personal trainers and certified yoga and pilates instructors and offer organic, whole food supplements. We also have a talented and knowledgeable massage therapist in-house.
It is our passion to take care of entire families. It is so gratifiying to watch someone regain their health and vitality or a child who has received chiropractic care since they were infants, develop and grow to their true potential. A highly functioning nervous system is key during these formative years. If their mother received chiropractic care during her pregnancy, the results are even better!!
I was born in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. My family immigrated to Lexington, Massachusetts when I was 6 years old. After graduating from chiropractic college, I relocated to the Central Massachusetts area. Both my children were born at home with a midwife in attendance, and are now 17 and 20. My eldest daughter is married and recently gave birth to a beautiful little girl. I have truly loved being a mother, but being a grandmother is an incredible experience! Watching my "baby" raise a baby is amazing. My youngest is going into her senior year of high school. She works in retail and is currently interested in going to college for a degree in business with a focus on real estate. My favorite pastimes often involve being outside. This winter, I hope to try snowmobiling and snowshoeing. In the warm weather, I love the beach, hiking, mountain biking, and long drives in the country. What many people might find surprising is that I would prefer to take that ride a fully restored 1967 Camaro SS as I love American muscle cars!
Receiving chiropractic care at least once a week ensures that my nervous system is clear and stress-free. I also see my massage therapist every other week. I love to exercise and over the years have changed my routine to keep it interesting. Currently, I am taking spinning and group power classes. To make sure that my body receives the best quality fuel, I takes Standard Process supplements every day and eats as much organic, whole foods as possible. The chiropractic lifestyle has improved my health every year as well as the health of my family. After reading extensively on pediatric health care, my children were raised without antibiotics, over the counter medication or vaccinations. Instead, I sought the guidance of a medical doctor who specialized in homeopathy. He kept my children healthy from the inside-out. They were raised with regular chiropractic care, quality nutrition and an appreciation for the outdoors, fitness, healthy relationships and a spiritual life.
Chiropractic philosophy and wellness care has transformed our health.
