Tips for successful New Year's Resolutions

“Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right!”

~Oprah Winfrey

Tradition dictates that every 365 days, we reflect on our lives. Where we are and where we would like to be. This year sit down with paper and pen, and reflect on these areas:

  1. Health
  2. Career
  3. Finances
  4. Family & Relationships

Instructions for successful New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. Be realistic by setting one achievable goal in each of these four areas. Choose goals that are feasible to do in a year. Share your goals with family and friends for a “reality check”.
  2. Describe your resolutions in specific terms. Instead of “I will exercise regularly” opt for “I will take a 30 minute walk 3 times a week”. Instead of “I will eat better” opt for “I will have a salad for lunch 4 times a week” or “I will not snack after dinner”.
  3. Break down large goals into smaller ones. For instance, commit to losing weight and getting healthier by writing down specific baby steps that you can take and add to them each month. For example, January: Join a gym and set up a 30 minute exercise program with a personal trainer. Do this program 3 times a week.
  4. Find alternatives to a behavior that you want to change, and make this part of your resolution plan. If you want to quit smoking or eating “junk food” but use it to relax, choose a healthier form of relaxation or stress reduction: exercise, time with friends, a good book, massage therapy, etc.
  5. The best health resolution for every New Year is to continue to optimize your health with regular chiropractic care!
